Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education plays a key role in the curriculum at Penkford. All pupils have access to some form of offsite outdoor provision every week, either through their timetable or our very popular extracurricular club which runs twice a week after school.
Outdoor Education promotes personal, social and emotional well-being. Pupils build relationships with each other and develop the ability to work as a team. Young people become more confident, boosting their ability to achieve and live more fulfilling lives.

Through Outdoor Education, students foster better relationships with others and gain a better understanding of other people’s needs. Students experience a different environment and learn to manage risks in a controlled way.

Further information about the activities within our Outdoor Education programme can be found using the links below:

Pupils also experience a large number of other activities including bush craft and survival skills, archery, gorge walking, high ropes courses, BMXing and scooters. We use a number of indoor and outdoor venues across the North West.

Extracurricular Club
Twice a week after school there is an opportunity for pupils to participate in our extracurricular club. Pupils need to have good attendance for the week and consistent safe behaviour. This helps to reinforce school principles and recognises pupils who make positive steps towards improving attitude and behaviour. Cinema trips, ice skating, bowling and night walks are among the activities that have been on offer.

‘An outdoor education teaches young people how to make good decisions and to take responsibility for their actions; it’s all about preparing them for life'

‘It is through adventure in our wild spaces that people, especially children, really learn and grow’
